HAPPY HEALTHY NEW YEAR TO YOU!
HAPPY HEALTHY NEW YEAR TO YOU!
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
After many months of planning and preparation, it is with great pride that the Faith Health Ministry is presented to the congregation of the Ogemaw Hills Free Methodist Church. This ministry is new to many churches, but has been successful in many congregations for over 20 years. Today, it is a movement of over 10,000 registered nurses, primarily in the United States and Canada, but growing in numbers around the world.
The most compelling reason to have Parish Nurses is that Christians are called to care for the sick and dying the way Jesus did. Communities are filled with hurting people who look for someone to touch them with expert and tender loving care.
As the health care system becomes more technical, the need for advocates increases for individuals who are too sick or do not have the energy and time to deal with the system. Families may lack information about resources that are available. Parish Nurses can act as liaisons to provide a crucial connecting link.
A health ministry also encourages other health care providers to volunteer---social workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, etc. All are needed to share their gifts and talents with our congregation. These services may include: sponsoring speakers on various health issues, providing health related information and referrals, coordinating care needs and access to community resources or leading support groups. This ministry DOES NOT include hands on nursing care such as: dressing changes, IV feedings, immunizations etc. Instead we help with referrals.
All people will face challenges related to health at some stage in their life. Traditional health care strives to heal the body, but often neglects the mind and spirit. The Faith Health Ministry promotes holistic health encompassing the body, mind, and spirit. Many think of health as illness, but it also means maintaining wellness, health promotion and disease prevention.
Please take time to answer the survey located in the sidebar to the right of the screen. It will help the Faith Health Ministry team determine what you want from this ministry. Please place the completed survey in the box located at the church welcome center by January 23, 2011.
